The Elbert Cemetery (also called the Elbert-Kiowa Cemetery) is located about ½ mile north of the town of Elbert, in Elbert County, Colorado. The entrance to the cemetery is off of 25-41 Road (also called the Elbert Road), with the cemetery located west of the road. The sections of the cemetery are designated A through N, with A being the closest to the entrance, on the east end, and N being the farthest west. Each "Section" consists of a double row of large plots, numbered 1 through 24, which run north & south. Each numbered plot has several graves, which have no specific numerical or letter designation. The cemetery contains over 1000 burials – some without markers.
Elbert-Kiowa Cemetery is owned by the town of Elbert and managed by a Cemetery Board, made up of several local residents. It is open for public visitation, but there is no cemetery office. Phone numbers of Cemetery Board contacts are posted at the cemetery.
NOTE: See the publication, "Western Pioneer Days: Biographies and Genealogies of Early Settlers with History of Elbert County, Colorado", by Ethel R. Corbett, 1974, for family history information on many of the early pioneers and settlers who are buried in this cemetery.
