The land was originally a burial ground for members of early settlers' families and known first as the Cole Cemetery to recognize Christopher Cole's donation of an acre of his farmland. The first burial of record, in what is now called the "Original Plat", was that of a small child, Fanny Dickman, in 1847.
The newer North Addition was added about 1912 when Noah Tyler, a successful real estate developer and early supervisor of Orion Township, bequeathed a large sum of money for an impressive monument, a receiving vault and the ornate gate and wrought iron fence.
In 1950, land for the East Addition was purchased and was developed beginning in 1998. Burial spaces are ten feet by three and one-half feet, grouped in lots of six which in turn are organized in sections. All owners of burial rights are members of the Association, which is governed by a seven member board of directors elected from among the members at the Annual Membership Meeting. The board elects officers who are responsible for overseeing the operation of the cemetery.
