Shawsheen (originally Shawshine) Cemetery is the second cemetery established by the town of Bedford. It has served as the town's principal burying place since 1849.

Among those buried in Shawsheen Cemetery are a number of individuals significant in the history of the community, including members of the Hartwell and Monroe families. Several individuals were moved from the Old Burying Ground, including the town's fourth minister, Rev. Stearns, who died in 1834.

According to a burial inventory completed in 1906, servicemen buried at Shawsheen included forty-five Civil War veterans, two veterans from the War of 1812, and one from the Mexican War. Also two individuals who were involved in the American Revolution, Stephen Lane and Peter, believed to be a slave.

The Massachusetts Historical Commission refers to this cemetery in MACRIS as BED.801 Shawsheen Cemetery.
