Search Will Mottern Cemetery:

Located in the Range Community about one mile north of the junction of Watauga Road and Cripple Creek Road on the Cripple Creek Road.Named for William "Will" Solomon Carter Mottern. The first person buried in this cemetery was a young Mottern boy,James H. Mottern, who died in 1847 after a fall from his horse in the "bottom" below the cemetery. He lived three days knowing that he was going to die. He asked to be placed under a large cedar tree. His request was carried out. The tree under which he was buried, is no longer there.
