Formerly known as the Tompkinsville National Cemetery.
This cemetery was a national military cemetery during the Civil War. One of the first such cemeteries in the state of Kentucky. At the end of the war there were 115 Union soldiers buried here, these soldiers were from 8 different states. By orders from Washington, D. C. most of the soldiers were moved to the new Nashville National Cemetery in Nashville, Tennessee in 1867. These soldiers are now located in sections U & W of that cemetery. Around the year 1888, the Tompkinsville National Cemetery became a public cemetery. No longer a national military cemetery, the locals still referred to the cemetery as "the Old Soldiers Cemetery."
