Search Forest Lawn Cemetery and Mausoleum:

This private cemetery has a well-staffed onsite records office, and to first call them and learn the section & lot of a burial will greatly facilitate your photo request. The cemetery was established in 1922, slightly outside the Richmond city limits in Henrico County, Virginia. Previously it was the estate of John Carter and was known as Myrtle Grove Plantation. John Carter's grave and headstone and those of his relations living with him at Myrtle Grove are still intact among the newer headstones of Forest Lawn. Also, many of the street names within Forest Lawn include references to this origin, including Carter Lane and Myrtle Grove Lane. A few mausoleums dot the landscape of Forest Lawn but most of the tidy acres along its tree-shaded streets display fairly conventional headstones. Nothing in this pleasant vista prepares the visitor for the mausoleum of Mrs. Diamond Peters and her family, which surely takes the prize among Richmond's cemeteries for sheer excess in style and execution. The property also contains Emek Sholom Holocaust Memorial Cemetery, one of the first memorials erected in the United States to victims of the Holocaust.
