2.5 acres was set aside in 1831 for the Munroe Cemetery to help augment the Old Colonial Burial Ground. It was expanded in 1882, however, overcrowding forced emergency acquisitions during the 1890s and early 1900s. Because of this the Westview Cemetery was opened in 1903 taking much of the pressure off Munroe. Burials continue to be made sporadically in this older cemetery.



The Massachusetts Historical Commission refers to this cemetery in MACRIS as LEX.802.
