The Lost Creek Methodist Church/Cemetery was founded well before the Civil War by the first settlers of the Lost Creek community. In the beginning, it was a combined Baptist and Episcopal Church and the Lost Creek School building. The cemetery space was very small in the beginning, so two of the settler families deeded land to it that brought it up to the size it is today. In later years, the church became the Lost Creek Methodist Church and the school was discontinued locally when schools were being merged together over a large area.
The Lost Creek community received it's name from a creek that originates in the Bon Air mountain area of White County and runs down into the little valley of Lost Creek then disappears into a sink at the lower end of the valley
