The cemetery really goes by the first name, "Mount Paran Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery". The confusion is that the church adjacent to the cemetery has been renamed as the Bethany Bible Chapel.

John Glover and Sarah Paschal owned nearly 1000 acres of land and donated some of this land to be used as a church, as did Mr. Tharp for a total of 7 acres. Most of the people buried in the cemetery are relatives of John and Sarah either by blood or marriage. The members of the church were all family in the beginning and as years went by members of the community also joined and are buried in the cemetery.

The first moderator was Rev. John Martin Blackstone in 1825. The church services were at first held in John Glover's home.
Blackstone was the father of Icy Blackstone also buried in Mt. Paran and the Glover family were intermarried with the Blackstone family. John and Sarah's granddaughter married the grandson of Rev. John Martin Blackstone.
