Location: Take first road to left just south of Howard's Bridge on road toward Philadelphia Church. Go about 1/2 mile. The cemetery is in wooded area on left side of road. There are at least 15 to 20 graves marked with fieldstones.
One of the earliest families to move into the area around Rock Springs in Maury County, Tennessee was the Thomas Gilliam family. He had married Sarah B. Pettus back in Virginia and brought his family to Maury County just about the time the county was opened up for settlement. Thomas and Sarah are buried in the Robert Hardison Cemetery. Their son Harrison Osborne Gilliam married Elizabeth Patterson, and they lived in the area also. James M. Gilliam, son of Harrison Osborne, moved across the river and settled on the land where this cemetery is located.
