In 1916, Kitchens School (1916-1948) was built near Farr's Chapel. In 1920, the old log church was replaced by a framed building on the same site, with an addition made in 1928. About 1950, a new Farr's Chapel Friends Church building was built down the mountain on Chestnut Valley Road (sign accurately shows "Farr's" – has the apostrophe). It is about 1.2 miles from the cemetery, location of the old Farr's Chapel Friends Church, and the old Kitchens School. The old, unimproved road went just around the church and adjacent cemetery, but Buck Hwy was built later between the cemetery and location of the old church. In 1999, Farr's Chapel Friends Meeting merged with nearby Oak Grove Friends Meeting and became Friends Meeting of Ballplay. The Farr's Chapel building on Chestnut Valley Road was no longer needed for meetings, but it still stood as of 2022. The cemetery is still maintained by Friends Meeting of Ballplay.
The cemetery has been referred to as Farr's Chapel Cemetery, Farr's Chapel Friends Cemetery and Farr's Chapel Friends Church Cemetery. Forrest Chapel and Fain Chapel were used just a few times (maybe due to a mispronunciation). Farr's Chapel in Kitchens TN, Old Kitchens Cemetery, and Kitchens Graveyard were used at least a time or two each. The first known record of Kitchens as an alternate cemetery name was in a death certificate of 1918, two years after the old Kitchens School was built. The earliest known newspaper obituary to use Kitchens Cemetery was in 1955 (showed the service was held at Forest Chapel Friends Chapel). Currently, one local funeral home primarily refers to "Kitchens Cemetery". If a memorial appears to be missing, check Kitchens Cemetery in Franklin County, TN. Another local funeral home uses "Farrs Chapel (Kitchens) Cemetery", which corresponds to the cemetery sign (both should show "Farr's"). This seems a fitting tribute to Rev. John Farr and those who built the chapel on Kitchens Mountain.
