Search Currie Cemetery African American:

This is listed as a "Currie" cemetery on the geological map we used to locate this area. We found only 1 grave, for Sallie Burke, in this overgrown strip of woods between a farm field and a row of houses. A resident told us that there were other burials in the area but no stones were visible through the heavy underbrush or when we searched briefly.
Directions: At a point on Currie Road about 0.2 mile west of its juncture with Union-Mercer Road, turn and walk through a field behind residence about 0.1 mile to the south to reach this long-abandoned burial ground.

Notes: Also called Currie #2 Cemetery. Many unmarked graves here. The graveyard of the white farmer, Harvey Currie (1809 - 1876) and his family is located about a mile east of this Black burial ground (all from JKT Smith book).
