There are many marked graves, but only one has a stone that marks who in buried there and that is Annie Jones. Most of the graves are marked with a fence around the grave. At one time, this was a cemetery on land belonging to the people of the small town of Mercur. Most likely these were mining people and their families. Later, a local mining company bought up the land. Many of the wooden fences around the graves were beginning to rot and fall apart. The owners of the mining company decided to leave the cemetery where it was; they rebuilt as many of the fences around the graves as they could locate, and placed their fence and gates marking off their mining company activity area behind the cemetery area, so that the public could still have access to the cemetery.
The cemetery is marked along the main road. Once you turn down the road, you'll see a wooden sign pointing up a fairly steep set of steps that lead up to this cemetery, which is located on top of a high hill. The Utah Historical Society placed a large rock with a metal plaque dedicating the cemetery and making it a historic site. The area is quiet and peaceful - it's a reminder of the old pioneer cemeteries of the past.
