In 1895, Mr. William Rovey purchased a farm west of Farmersville. He, his wife, Nancy, and three children, Fred, Wilhelmina and Ida, then moved to the farm from the Rovey homestead in Christian county. Feeling the need for a local cemetery after the death of his daughter, Wilhelmina in 1903, Mr. Rovey set aside a small plot in the northeast corner of his farm to be designated as a cemetery.
The cemetery to be known as "Rovey Cemetery" was incorporated on April 20, 1908, with its first board made up of the following local residents: William H Rovey, Rhinard Fuchs, J.O. Browning, August Birkenkamp, Henry Neuhaus, and J.N. Orr.
Two additions have been made for the enlargement of the cemetery, the last being in 1980.
The current directors serving on the cemetery board of directors are direct descendants of the founder of the cemetery, William H. Rovey. Robert Rovey is a great-grandson, Leonard Rovey is a third generation nephew, and Della Fuchs is a granddaughter.
