Fenton Cemetery

Fenton, Whiteside County, Illinois, USA
Memorials 617 added (89% photographed)

The Fenton Cemetery is located in Whiteside county, Fenton Township, North East corner of Section 17, (southwest corner of Black Rd and Wilmot Rd). It was established in the mid 1800's, some time before the United Brethren Church was built there in 1870. The Church thrived at the cemetery location until 1895 when the building was moved to the town of Fenton. The church later merged with the Evangelical Church in 1947 and then with the United Methodist Church in 1968. The cemetery property was transferred from The United Brethren Church over to Fenton Township in April 1916.

In 1930, the township purchased additional land on the south side of the cemetery and another addition on the west was purchased in 1951.

According to the present record book, the earliest burial was Lucinda Moore in 1850. However, the current record of burial dates was made from grave markers and there are a number of graves without stones, leaving the exact earliest burial date unknown.

The Fenton Township Cemetery is kept and managed by a cemetery board of directors appointed by the Town Board.
