About

Oak Hill Cemetery was Charted by an Act of Congress on March 3, 1849, and inspired by the Rural Cemetery Movement happening along the East Coast. W.W. Corcoran, founder of the cemetery, hired Navy Engineer Captain George de la Roche to lay out the cemetery's terraced levels, and maintaining this historic cemetery is the chief tenet of The Oak Hill Cemetery Company and Historic Preservation Foundation.
