Gracelawn Memorial Park

New Castle, New Castle County , Delaware, USA

Gracelawn Memorial Park was originally farmland known colloquially as Old Logan Farm. In 1931, Old Logan Farm was leased to J. Allison Buck who converted the farm into Buck Airport which served bi-planes and single wing planes.

On July 17, 1933, J. Allison Buck was killed, testing an aircraft. Soon after, the lease for the airport gave way to the incorporation of Gracelawn Memorial Park which was officially opened to the public on October 26, 1934 in a public ceremony hosted by the cemetery’s president W. L. Richards.

Since then, the 80-acre cemetery has gone through some additions. In the 1960s, Memorial Chapel was built attached to the cemetery office. In 1990s, Memorial Tree, a bronze sculpture of a tree with each leaf hosting the name of a deceased loved on, was installed. Memorial Tree stands at the front of the administrative building.
