Search Oheb Shalom Cemetery:

Oheb Shalom is Newark's second-oldest synagogue, the oldest being B'nai Jeshuron, and was organized in 1859 after a schism within B'nai Jeshuron over Jewish law.

Like many splinter synagogues, it didn't settle into a permanent home immediately, and spent time on both Prince and High streets in Newark.

It celebrated it's centennial by moving once again--becoming the first of Newark's large synagogues to relocate to the suburbs in South Orange.

Oheb's original cemetery was within the larger B'nai Abraham cemetery, in Newark's west ward, south of South Orange Avenue.

This cemetery in Hillside was formed in the early 1900's and is adjacent to Evergreen Cemetery. It's very well-kept, and is managed by the Synagogue's Cemetery Society.
