The heart-strings of the people of Guymon were strained last Thursday afternoon when the news spread about the city of the sad accident that had befallen Rheta, 11, and Dean, 17 months old, children of Mrs. Florence Bender, struck by a car while crossing Main street at Seventh. Rheta was pulling her little brother in a cart when they were struck, Betty Jo Doyle, the driver of the car, a 17 year-old girl, stating she did not see the children until too late.

Rhetta was thrown to the pavement and was unconscious for a number of hours, has a deep cut in her breast, concussion of the brain, and many bruises and is still in a serious condition in the Epworth Hospital, Liberal, Kansas, where she and the little brother were taken following the accident.
