GOODBYE IS NOT FOREVER! This memorial was created to honor the legacy and preserve the memory of My Dad, CPL US MARINE CORPS Veteran Husband; Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Friend to many. ღ ღ ღ WE LOVE OUR HANDSOME DAD ღ ღ ღ Theodore Cofer, Sr, 74, of Pennsauken, NJ, passed away on Sunday, Nov 27, 2005, at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center surrounded by his family, cause of death was non-hodgkin lymphoma. He was lovingly called Ted; he was native to Smithfield, Virginia, the sixth child to the late Tom and Ida Hall Cofer. As a child and a father, he loved to fish and even more so he enjoyed eating his catch; he took his sons on deep sea fishing trips most of the time his brother, Uncle Wilbur came with us on these excursions. He served his country commendably as a Corporal in the US Marines Core at the time of his honorable discharge. He met his wife of 52 years, Stella, in the summer of 1951. They married in the summer of August 28, 1954, moved to Atlantic City, NJ and upon this union are four children. While raising a young family together they owned and operated a neighborhood grocery store, "The Ohio Market". Always a businessman at heart, he served the Lord as a young preacher in Atlantic City. The family or "tribe" as he would say; moved from Atlantic City, in 1966, after surviving "The Winter Storm/Flood of 1962"; to Cherry Hill, New Jersey where they were well known in the local business community. He and his wife were the first African-Americans to own and operate businesses called "A Shop Called East" in the Cherry Hill, Echelon and Deptford Malls. He was an International Trader and enjoyed traveling abroad. He experienced many different cultures and lifestyles such as Hong Kong, India, Taiwan and many others: He owned and operated a wholesale business called DACO Imports, Inc. to supply his and other retail outlets. He also owned DERON Inc., a government contract manufacturing business named after his beloved daughters, Dee and Ronnie. He was the inventor of MAGICSHELF and worked on developing to become a writer. He enjoyed his music, all kinds, reading and the outdoors; he was an avid bird watcher and he fed them daily... His most favorite place was wherever there was tropical sun and beautiful pristine beaches. He never complained, as he was a gentle man, a peaceful man. An excellent father and provider for his family, especially his grandchildren, Pop-Pop would sit and listen with an adoring smile as Michael boasted of big fish "tales." Pop-Pop loved to see Alex's latest Tae Kwon Do moves and was ecstatic to learn of his black belt status. He would proudly smile of each new story of Michael's football and basketball triumphs. He encouraged the development of learning in his family and stressed the importance of education and entrepreneurship. An avid moon and stars observer, they would listen to his stories and laugh out loud when he would say "MILLIONS and BILLIONS" mostly in reference to just about anything. He leaves to cherish his loving memories, his devoted loving wife of 52 years, Stella; his four children and his two grandsons. Dad enjoyed Thanksgiving Day celebrations and it was one of his favorite holidays, sadly; he passed away on Sunday three days after Thanksgiving he is sorely missed. Now that his mission is complete he takes his rest in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He loved to give God thanks for all blessings that come from the Father above... Doing the course of his life he told us how grateful he was to have us as his loving children... I loved to hear him blessed the food every time we gathered to eat. He was a terrific speaker and I miss his voice. He had a very generous heart and he loved to blessed people he met that were in need. He promoted giving back to others that were less fortunate then us especially during holiday times. He knew the Lord was calling him home; after his death, mom found a piece of paper where he wrote "Thank God I'm in Heaven Now". When I saw him for the last time, he had a big smile on his face even through he was going through a major pain he never complained. The last words he spoke to me were, "son you did good." after that he never spoke again; as Jesus became his friend. Dad I miss you so very much though you are gone; you are always in my heart.
