Chestnut Hill Cemetery

Mabel Thedora Porter, a spinster with no children and Earle Porter Brown are buried with the same tombstone marked "Brown." Mabel (or Mable) was Earle's aunt and Ola Porter Brown's sister. "Mabel" was the way she spelled her name. Earle was also a life-long bachelor. Earle was a bit eccentric and very tight with his money. I can only surmise that it was cheaper burying the two together.Mabel was the oldest daughter of Susan Charlotte Collins and John Henry Porter. She was born in Marion County, SC and lived for many years in Florida before moving to Salisbury to live with or near her sisters, Maud Porter Henley and Ola Porter Brown. There is a pond in Washington County, FL, named for Mabel. She homesteaded the land around the pond in the early 1900s. She was a business owner in early Lynn Haven, FL.Earle was the youngest of Ola Porter's and Jesse Oscar Brown, Sr.'s four children.
