City Point National Cemetery, Hopewell, Virginia

The Cemetery was established in 1866, on the south bank of the Appomattox River. From June, 1864 thru April, 1865, City Point was the site of General Grant's supply depot for his assaults on Petersburg and Richmond. A large Union Hospital was established and may of the sick and injured that died there were interred near there. The burial ground later became part of the National Cemetery.
