44th New York Volunteer Infanty

The 44th New York Volunteer Infantry, aslo know as Ellsworth's Avengers. In August 1861, the 44th New York Infantry Regiment formed in response to the death of Colonel Elmer Ellsworth, a New York native, nationally-known military figure, and a personal friend of Lincoln. They participated in most of the major battles of the Civil War, including Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg. We will endeavor to finally lay them to rest, here together.
