Catholic Cemetery

88 Tombs Listed Believed to be the cemetery behind the St. Mary Magdalen Church where Joseph LeBlanc is buried with his family. Space given by Fr. Megret to Joseph LeBlanc (farmer) for burial of him and his family after he sold his property (160 arpents, 40 arpents deep from river and believed to have been a Spanish Grant) This cemetery must be called the Old Catholic Cemetery due to a Historic Marker placed at it's location naming it as such. There are 2 other Cemeteries for Abbeville Catholics, St. Mary Magdalen, behind the Vermilion Catholic High School and St. Paul Cemetery on Jacqueline Street. Masoleum type burials are available at both St. Mary Magdalen and St. Paul. Fr. Megret is credit to have founded Abbeville and used the LeBlanc home for his first church where the present brick church is today, 2012. The cemetary behind this church should be called Old Catholic Cemetery.
