My fraternal great-great-grandmother; grew up east of Kokomo in Howard County, Indiana. Her parents,(Christian and Susanna Hershberger), took the conservative side (with the "House Amish")when the Amish churches in Indiana divided in the 1850s. Upon her marriage to Samuel J. Troyer from Holmes County, Ohio, moved to the church of his faith, the "Progressive Meetinghouse Amish". However, upon her marriage to Samuel J. Troyer, from Holmes County, Ohio, Katie moved tto the church of her husband. Samuel died at the age of 40, most likely because of stomach ulcers brought on by stress. Susie, their second, was 12 when her father died, but had helped to nurse him during his extended illness.
