Hi, I'm KW, an air traffic controller that's about to retire and the mom of two that loves to solve a good family history mystery. I've spent the last couple of years researching and writing a book for my kids and when I stumbled upon FindAGrave I fell in love with the concept. I've been editing, adding, and connecting the people in my family tree on here ever since.

Here are a few of my FindAGrave thoughts in no particular order....

I would prefer to keep a few of the close family members I manage, but other than them I would be more than happy to transfer you any of the others, so please don't hesitate to ask. Oh, and my photos are your photos, so no need to ask if you can use them elsewhere, the answer is always yes.

You may have noticed my name all over the Hodge and McMurray family in and around Mercer County, Pennsylvania. I've spent more time than I would like to admit researching those folks and connecting them on here. They are my people and I've had a great time working through each and every one of them. Oh, and if you have anything you'd like to share about any of them I would love to hear about it. Don't hesitate to send me a message.

Some people transfer memorials without even receiving a request. I figure if you want to give a relative to me then I'm happy to take them. Just know that every time that happens, I spend a ridiculous amount of time researching and writing a proper bio for that person. I don't know why I feel compelled to do it every single time, but I do.

I very rarely edit or add anything to a person that I'm not related to, and if you ever question an edit I request, just ask, and I'll send you anything you need. I know I'm not perfect and am sure I've made a few mistakes here and there, so please question, correct or send me a message if you see something that doesn't look right.

A little kindness goes a long way. A really long way.

Some people like obits and some do not. I like them, especially the really old ones.

Memorial managers are like snowflakes, each and every one is very, very, very different. It's crazy how differently people view this site or what camp they're in when it comes to edits, adding memorials and even what should be written in the bio. Never take offense when I send an edit or a request if it's something you don't like or agree with. Just tell me it's not your jam and I'll completely understand. No, really, I'm not here to make things weird, awkward or to pick a fight ever. I get that people like things certain ways and there's nothing wrong with that. Just talk to me.

Because others have went out of their way to take pics for me, I now do the same. I've also been adding the neighbors of my family in each cemetery I visit, so if you see some of your people in my list, just ask, and I will gladly transfer.

This is more of an Ancestry.com thought - I'm a stickler when it comes to siting sources and it's painful for me to stumble upon a family tree where I know the information was simply copied from another tree without a single source to back any of it up. Please stop filling in blanks because you saw it in another tree. If you come across a KW tree on Ancestry get ready for a good laugh as I write about my sources and tell funny stories about people quite regularly. What I'm saying here is please slow down and make your tree something worth reading, not something that you simply threw together or copied from someone else. Ancestry.com is expensive, make it worth your while.

Burt (46867609) taught me in 2023 that if you die and your family deletes your FindAGrave account then all of the photos you have contributed also go away. Make sure your loved ones only close your account, and don't delete it. Rest in peace, Don Bitner.

Thanks to Graveyard Walker (47314881) I now know the difference between a cemetery and a graveyard. #themoreyouknow

It's too bad there isn't a way to connect siblings outside of inserting HTML into the bio, but I kind of get why there's not.

The good really does outweigh the bad, weird, or awkward things that sometimes happen on here. Special thanks to MM (48754270) for links to help me find info on my Appanoose County, Iowa and Putnam County, Missouri family in old newspapers, it was incredibly helpful! To Alberta Knotts (47361965), who I'm sure had to be absolutely sick of me suggesting edits for a month straight, you rock! To Tree Leaf (47481781) for some great advice and to Bob McMurray (47168995) and TJKitch (47699798) for helping me with my McMurray family in Pennsylvania, I can't thank you enough.

In the spring of 2023 I went looking for a family member at Mount Carmel in Hillside, Illinois and another at Calvary in Evanston. What I found was nearly 50 people in unmarked graves beside them. I did my best to add them all to FindAGrave, research and connect them all. If these are your people please don't hesitate to ask for a transfer. When the cemetery provided me with lists of the people buried there and I didn't see them on FAG, I felt compelled to add and connect them. Again, if you are related to Keating, Crowley, Burns, Bergman or Garvey, you should manage these, not me.
