Prior military family (she is a NC girl, he is a SD guy), not looking forward to empty nester syndrome. Got involved with Find A Grave because there is so much incomplete information on a major part of our families memorials on here. Figured paying it forward was the best way to help. We attempt to put as complete a picture for each memorial that we enter in the system. Normally all we have to go by is the headstones themselves. I really don't like when people upload new entries just from obituaries. The majority of the time that just leads to headaches for others to figure out.

Our method:
1) Enter the information for each memorial.
a) Name - First, Middle, Last, etc.
2) Any Birthdate and Passing Dates available on the stone
3) Under Inscription - type all information that is on the headstone, from top to bottom.
4) Save the entry
5) Hold phone or mobile device within 6" of headstone and enter GPS info
6) Take a photo from a distance to show all area around the headstone
7) Take a photo of any secondary markers
8) Take a photo the headstone that takes up the entire shot and centered

By taking the photos in that order, we have found that they end up in reverse order.

If we have a memorial in our care that you would like transferred to you, please just ask. We would prefer politely asking, but asking is just fine. We are planning to do large dumps of memorials to local churches in the future after we complete entering everyone in. We really don't intend to collect memorials like some people on here seem to be doing. We are currently working in Charleston, SC because this is where we live, we may also work in the Cumberland, Sampson, Harnett, Johnston, Braden and Robeson counties of North Carolina. We have also been focusing most of the work on typically African American Church cemeteries, they are by a long ways that least recorded and cared for around here in Charleston.
