I have been actively doing family research for over 30 years. When I was about 10 or 11 years of age (1953-54), my grandmother would tell me stories about her/our family. I didn't forget what she told me. My mother, who died at age 100 years, 10 months and 20 days had an excellent memory, and I like to think that I inherited some of her genes in that regard.

When I moved to Georgia April, 12 1968, I knew that my great-grandfather, Daniel Berry Jordan ( 1858-1936) had been born in Paulding County Ga. He was the first ancestor that I began looking for in Ga. I found that he was born at Huntsville, Paulding Co., about 15 miles from where I now live. His F/I/L Duncan Graham Campbell ( 1789-1867), (my 3rd great) is buried 3 miles from my home, and I will be buried at his feet. I followed the Jordans from Oklahoma, Oklahoma Territory , Texas., Indian Territory, Mississippi, Alabama, then to Georgia and then North Carolina. Of course that was only the beginning. I have not found any ancestors on Findagrave that I wasn't already aware of, and I am trying to add to the sum total of information about ancestors, or other relatives. In some cases if I find that there is incorrect or incomplete information about ones that are already listed in Findagrave, I will try to correct the faulty information. I am not so much interested in adding memorials to my name, but do ask that some of my direct ancestor's memorials be changed to me, because I am old and have problems with my typing hand, and cannot post or edit for long periods of time, and when one has to go back and edit a post that belongs to someone else, it makes it difficult to have a continuous story line. If someone asks to have a memorial transferred to them, I will be happy to do so, unless it is also my ancestor.
I just figured out how to add photos to Findagrave. Will be adding more soon.
In my almost 70 years (I am 80) of gathering family history, I have (with the help of many others) accumulated five-four drawer file cabinets full of letters, documents etc. I also have over 40 cardboard file boxes full, four bookcases of reference books etc, two bookcases of historical and genealogical society periodicals, numerous CDs with Census records, land records marriages etc. . I have also extracted and printed in their entirety (excluding, for lack of space, slaves) the 1801 and 1816 Elbert County Ga. Tax Digests, copies of each were donated to the Elberton Library , Elbert County Ga. along with other notebook binders with information mostly concerning the Jordan and White Families in Elbert Co and other places.
I have also had articles published in the Hollis (Ok) News, the Heritage of Paulding Co Ga. 1832-1999; Heritage of Prentiss County Ms.; Heritage of The Toe Rover Valley Vol II; History of Boone County Ar. and others. Also have 1 two drawer file cabinet with many old photos, Ambrotypes, Tintypes and other pictures.
I, along with the late persons: Marigene Andrew MCall, Randolph and Gwen Moore, Sallie Lunsford Seymour, Thomas & Virginia (White) Boylan, were the ones who organized the 1st Burden-Jordan-White Family Reunion that was held in June of 1999 at the Elberton Civic Center, Elbert Co., Ga. I and Randy's wife are the only ones still living of that bunch.
I also, with the help of the late persons: Julia Louisa Tinney; Mrs. Fairy Hankins; Mrs. Virginia Harrington, and others organized the Freeman-Frye-Harp-Greenwood-Holley-Witcher Family Reunions that were held in Forestburg, Montague County, Tx. in 1992-1993 and 1995.
I also, helped Jean Hollis Harris dig thru rocks and briars ,at the site of the Brawley's Fork Cemetery in Cannon Co. Tn. until she found the two pieces of our ancestor's grave marker. He was John Hollis b. 1736 in England and died Aug 27, 1832 in Rutherford Co Tn. I took the two pieces to a granite quarry in Elbert Co,. Ga. and had the two pieces fastened to a new marker, which I hauled to Cannon County, and helped erect it, and later, I obtained one for his wife Mary, which was the same size as John's. The cost of the markers were
paid for by contributions from John & Mary's descendants. Later the S.A.R. had a memorial service for John, and added a marker from their organization.
