Bio

Gary's interest in photography began when he was a kid in the 1950's in his Dad's darkroom, developing and printing B&W photos. His Dad let him use his twin lens reflex camera. He was known to climb water towers to get the right angle on things. Little did he know this was a start of a fascinating career.
Gary likes many different art expressions along with photography, so you could call him eclectic. He lives in the beautiful state of Colorado but appreciates beauty from all over. He was an Air Force photographer and later got a degree in photography and cinema. During his career he taught photography and shared ideas for improving images. The Internet has made it so easy for sharing and provides a whole new field. He explores these media and is still learning every day. Gary loves to mentor others in the skills of photography, such as composition and techniques.

He has a renewed interest in photography after 30 years. His heroes are Ansel Adams and Edward Weston. He likes original images best and appreciates the delicate capture of light, form and textures. He considers the "worship of the image" prior to capture the most important aspect of quality photography. His favorite subjects are considered un-manipulated shots that present far more then the obvious subject matter. He finds photography to be the best way to capture and express what is in his mind's eye, and loves viewing other people's art for original, quality images.

His motto is: "Worship your image in the view finder in order to capture the best of what caught your eye."

He invites his friends who will be in the Denver metro area to look him up and maybe spend the day doing photography together. Maybe think of it as a training session, and a way to experience some of the most beautiful areas of Colorado just an hour or two away.
