Family genealogy got me started. Finding relatives buried in Bethel Presby Cemetery in Bethel Park, where I live, peaked my interest in the History of Bethel Park, and its founding residents, many of whom are buried in Bethel Presby or Peters Creek Baptist cemeteries. I continue to try to map out these families, even though they are not "directly" related to me. I love the quest and the challenge! I am working to correct and complete as many old records as possible, through vast amounts of my own research, in conjunction with what has been written in the 1936 Degelman book on Bethel Presbyterian, a 1936 D.A.R list of tombstones that were read (their list contains many mistakes), a 1915 list of tombstone inscriptions (not many families included), a boyscout transcription project done in 2001 ( unfortunately by this point many tombstones were illegible, and it too contains some errors ), the information on F.A.G., and most importantly, the actual written records of Rev. George Marshall, the 3rd pastor of Bethel Presbyterian Church. His handwritten ledger lists births, deaths, marriages, baptisms, and more - but was incorrectly labeled as being from the First Presbyterian Church of Duquesne, PA. I am transcribing his writings, and trying to update F.A.G. and my own family tree, as I am a very, very, very distant relative to most of the pioneering families of our town - through the husband of my 1st cousin 4x removed.
