Bio

Michael Robert Wilcox has lived at his home in West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada since June 2003. Born 1946 he grew up in Oceanport, New Jersey with his sister Jane and brother Bert. Mike was good in school and active in sports. He played on the undefeated 1963 football team at Shore Regional High School and won a US Navy scholarship to Purdue University. He graduated from Purdue in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering and reported to US Navy flight school in Pensacola, Florida. After flight school he was ordered to his squadron's home base in San Diego, California. From there he was assigned duty in Cubi Point, Philippines and Danang, South Vietnam flying aircraft carrier deliveries during the Vietnam war.

Returning to the US in 1972 he began a career in sales and marketing of industrial machinery, first with Ingersoll-Rand in Los Angeles, then with Denver Equipment and Envirotech Corporation. In 1981 Mike was promoted to District Sales Manager for Envirotech in Denver, where he earned a Master's degree in Business Administration at the University of Colorado. In 1984 he was recruited by Outokumpu Engineering (a competitor) to be its president. His tenure at Outokumpu only lasted two years because the parent company in Finland split up into separate entities and the American company was disbanded.

Mike took a break from industrial machinery with a position as Vice President & General Manager of the Australian Outback Collection, marketing fashion outerwear in North America. Following that he sold Inuit stone carvings, northwest coast native art and contemporary wildlife art from galleries in Aspen, Colorado and Carmel, California. When the mining industry came out of its slump he became Western Regional Sales Manager for Dorr-Oliver, with offices in San Francisco and Denver. In 1996 Mike became Director of Sales for Davy-Kvaerner in San Ramon, California. In 1999 he was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration (SME), the largest professional mining society in the world.

In 2003 Mike moved to West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He founded Spotgold Exploration developing gold properties in Nevada. His partner, Steve Potter, was the exploration geologist for that enterprise. Steve died of cancer in 2006 so Mike sold the properties and founded ProSales Canada, a sales agency representing several manufacturers of industrial machinery. Over the next 15 years ProSales Canada closed nearly $100 million worth of equipment sales for its principal manufacturers.
