William Irvine Woods, born Nov 25, 1939 in Providence Hospital, Richland County, Columbia, SC, to Marion Ashbell and Hazel Funderburg Woods. The first of two children. Attended McMaster Elementary, Hand Junior High, and Columbia High School. Graduated from Univ of SC in 1962 and attended Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary and later did graduate work in English at Winthrop College. In 1978 he switched careers and worked in Educational Administration at The University of Texas at Austin until his retirement in 2005. During his employment in the Dept of Geological Sciences he became an accomplished mineralogist and faceter. He is married to Francisco A Valladares since 1985.
