Centered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the Sophie de Marsac Campau Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR), is one of the oldest DAR chapters in the U.S., and the second oldest in Michigan. Its members have a rich 124-year history of promoting DAR objectives. DAR is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America's future through better education for children. NSDAR has 185,000 members in 3,000 chapters across the US and internationally. More than 1 million women have joined the DAR since it was founded. Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution, is eligible to join the DAR.
