Various historical family artifacts handed down to me influenced my interest in our family's story. Among them are my great grandmother's autograph book dated 1883-1885, my great aunt's Bible with copious personal notes, and Dad's diploma dated 1950 from Northwestern Schools signed by Billy Graham.
In addition, there was a niggling remembrance of my grandmother talking about Tug Hollow where she grew up. Googling Tug Hollow yielded a gold mine in the form of Nancy R. Schroeder's books "Tug Hollow – A Wisconsin Community and Its One-Room School" and "Tug Hollow – In Celebration of a One-Room School's Founding 150 Years Ago".
Her books, our personal email correspondence and the Monroe County Local History Museum web site, and, of course, Find A Grave have been invaluable in piecing together a very personal story of the Gage, Raabe and Raatz families from that small corner of our Creator God's world.
