Bio

As an atheist, I don't have faith in much of anything, but I do have beliefs:

* I believe that some things, like a persons genealogy, cannot be owned. Ultimately we are all part of one human family tree, and a person cannot own a Great-Great-Grandparent to any extent greater than any of their 3rd cousins. Therefore I believe in the premise that all genealogical work should ultimately be shared with others.

* I believe evidence should be as rigorous as possible, and efforts should be made for high levels of accuracy. However, I don't think results should be held up or hidden due to the absence of absolute proof, but rather when evidence contrary to hunches, however well meaning, comes to light, records should be corrected to show the best information currently available.

* I believe that no data should ever be allowed to be lost. This means storage of data online, where it can be redundantly backed up and preserved in case of death or disinterest by the party or parties that did the original work.

* I believe that DNA data should be preserved, as it has been shown to be very effective in prooving 3-4 generations of relationships in general, and many more generations for Y specific, and Mitocondrial specific lines.

* I believe that the privacy of the living should be preserved.

Currently, my personal work is maintained in it's most up-to-date state on WikiTree.com . As an open source software engineer (the code I write is as free as my genealogy research) I believe in WikiTrees open source model, and the rigor it (attempts) to enforce. I believe in it's conflict resolution (in case genealogical veracity is questioned) model, and I like it's One World Tree, and fee free membership. And I very much like the helpful nature of Genealogists helping Genealogists of all levels of experience.
