Welcome to my profile!

I'm a native of Johnstown, Cambria County, Pennsylvania, and a 3rd great-grandson of Isaac Cousins of Armstrong County, PA; Isaac to John A to John Henry to Robert Dunn to Robert Kemery to me. Many, many of my ancestors were from Somerset County, Pennsylvania, especially Shade and Stonycreek townships.

I've been researching both my Cousins and Phillips families, and their ancestral lines, since the mid-1990s, back when I was searching microfilm rolls in a darkened room at the Indiana State Capitol library.

My Ancestry Family Tree consists of over 45,000 people as of April 2024. I'm highly accurate and strive to be as precise as possible. I consider myself an advanced family history researcher. It's important to me to honor our ancestors with accurate and pertinent information in their memorials.

My 2nd-great grandfather, John A Cousins, and his brother, James H Cousins, were privates with the 78th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. I've visited many of the places the 78th fought in Tennessee and Georgia including the battlefields of Stones River, Chickamauga, and Pickett's Mill.

Our families originated in; Germany, England, Wales, Scotland, Switzerland, and Ireland (northern). Several of my ancestors worked the iron furnaces, steel mills, and coal mines of the Johnstown region.

A great granduncle of mine, Gomer Phillips, the lead first-aid man of Cambria Iron at the time, lost his life attempting to recover miners killed in a mine explosion in Johnstown in 1915.

I am related to the Lincoln family on my father's side via Anna Maria Lincoln of Somerset County, Pennsylvania. I'm also related to Joseph (Schantz) Johns, the founder of my hometown of Johnstown, Pennsylvania through my maternal grandmother's Yoder ancestors.

Tragically, ten (10) members of my extended family perished in the Johnstown Flood of May 31, 1889. I created a Virtual Cemetery dedicated to them in hopes of keeping their memories alive.

I recently had the headstone of my 3rd-great grandparents, Johannes (John) C Ernst and Rosina (Rose) Maser Ernst, of Johnstown, reset and cleaned. They're buried in Grandview Cemetery. The headstone had a significant lean. Its foundation needed to be demolished and re-poured so that the stone sits straight again. Thanks to Shetler Memorials for coordinating this work.

Family surnames include; Cousins, Phillips, Kemery, Moore, Clarke, Berkebile, Karl, Jones, Ernst, Rodgers, Yoder, Baughman, and many more.

With the help of my oldest son, in September 2022, I began cleaning many of our family's older headstones in Cambria, Somerset, and Armstrong counties.

Please drop me a line if we have, or you think we may have, ancestors in common! I'd love to hear from you.
