Bio

Currently living in Omaha, NE, I am from Alexandria, LA which is in Rapides Parish but my family's roots are in Avoyelles Parish. My first ancestor to arrive in America was Rene "LaFleur" Gauthier. He was a native of Moulines, near Fougeres, Bishopric of Rouen, Normandy. He was the son of Michel Gauthier and Margaret Pelletier of the same parish. Rene was a soldier of the Company. He embarked on the flute, "La Marie", at LaRochelle, France for Louisiana on May 27, 1719. He is shown on the passenger list as from St. Hilaire Parish, Normandy, age 18. This would place his birth as 1701. It is believed that his service as a soldier was uninterrupted until his death April 25, 1758. He was the father of Guillaume Rene Gauthier from whom many of the Gauthiers in Avoyelles Parish and elsewhere in central and south Louisiana are descended.
