Bio

I live in the mountains of western North Carolina near the Great Smoky Mountain N. P. I am a rock hound, rock polisher and try my hand at jewelry work (stone setting) from time-to-time.
I have been interested in genealogy since I don't remember when, sometime in Jr. High. No one in my mother's family knew where the family had come from and my grandfather on that side was dead. My grandfather on my dad's side would only tell me that his mother died when he was very young, so, I started from scratch.
The earliest story I can recall is from my Grandmother, who told me that she came to west Texas from Hamilton County in a covered wagon when she was 8 yo. and how her mother had stood in the door of their cabin with a shotgun when a group of men rode up while their men were gone.
I have found that in 1776 my 5th generation grandfather passed within a mile of where I now live to fight the Cherokee. I have found that genealogy is serendipitous , that is, you never know where or in what form information will turn up.
