After leaving his academic career in 2001, Brouwer passionately worked in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans-gendered community. With his team-focused approach, Brouwer’s firm has met yearly goals while growing 500% since 2010. Along with working as an executive assistant, and in order to fulfill his desire to assist members of the community, Brouwer obtained his CDL in 2014 and became a professional school bus driver. With this important decision, Brouwer re-enrolled at MVCC in 2014, earned an Associate of Science degree in 2016, and began SXU's nursing program in the fall of 2016. He graduated in 2020.
