Bio

My father, Peter Adams Sutherland, like generations of his family before him, had a keen interest in family history within the greater story of human history. The last few years of his life he spent vigorously pursuing details of those whose lives preceded his. As his first born, thanks to support from my mother, and encouragement from my siblings, I have picked up the work.My father's ancestors are concentrated in upstate New York and the towns of the Connecticut River Valley around Amherst, Massachusetts, where I attended college in the second half of the 1970s. My father's mother (Adams) and father (Sutherland) and his mother's relatives have headstones at Wildwood Cemetery in Amherst, Massachusetts. My mother's ancestors are from northern Italy through her father, and from Kentucky, through her mother (Reeder and Sargeant).I live outside of Raleigh North Carolina and have ready access to sites in Cary, Apex, Holly Springs, New Hill, Pittsboro and Sanford, North Carolina if you're looking for a gravestone photo.I am grateful to the many hundreds of contributions to this site. Generous offerings of thousands of hours of your lives are laying way for generations to come to track those who came before.I believe in connecting family members on Find-A-Grave. While grave locating was the primary focus, connecting family members can help in locating a final resting place, and help descendants locate the graves of family members.I have added the names of ancestors whose burial location is unknown because they are part of the fabric, members of families. Already I have been able to locate burial sites of a few who initially had none known. Others may come and add pieces of the puzzle that helps fill out the story.
