My maternal side is McDavitt and Gowdy (sometimes Goudy) of Irish descent. My paternal side is Brown, Smithhart, McVay, Worthen of British descent. Both lines go back heavily to Iowa, specifically Keokuk, Wapello and Jefferson counties.
