Bio

I grew up in Rappahannock County, Virginia, and I am a sixth generation descendant of John Kilby (~1710-1772) of Bromfield Parish, Culpeper (originally Orange) County, Virginia. Many generations of Kilbys lived in Culpeper County and then the subdivided counties of Rappahannock and Madison. Other Kilbys migrated to nearby and distant states. The eighteenth and early-nineteenth century Kilbys of Culpeper were mostly yeoman farmers; some were enslavers. My research identifies and documents all Kilbys of European and African descent. Genetically and historically, we are linked on a common family tree.

When I visit a burial site, I stop and reflect on a life too often faded from memory. A name, an inscription--I hear the call, "Remember me." With the memorials I create here I wish to honor those who we should never forget.

If you wish to add, correct, or remove some inaccuracy in a memorial, or as a direct descendant you wish to maintain a memorial yourself, do not hesitate to ask. Send general questions and comments to gravetalk[at]kilbyfamily[dot]com.
