I'm a Fowler, Ferguson, Sayers, Gillespie, Hale, Batson, Cunningham, and Stewart. With only a few exceptions, all of my ancestors migrated from England to Virginia during the 1600's. During the 1700's, all but a handful of clans started migrating down the Appalachians. The Hales set up shop around Washington County, Tennessee and the Sayers went down to Alabama, but every other family I mentioned settled in the mountains of the western Carolinas. The hills I played on as a kid in my hometown of Travelers Rest, SC were being hunted by my ancestors before the American Revolution!
