Hello and greetings to all the members here. I've tried to connect as many family members as possible though this website and I've worked on my family history since the early 1980's. Unfortunately, I was too young to realize the importance of family history when many of my relatives were still here to record the information. God blessed me with a loving family. I had a wonderful relationship with both my mother and my father. My mom and my dad supplied me with wonderful memories and experiences that I will always cherish. My mom did everything she could to make sure I attended college and made the most of life. I owe her everything. I was born in Camden, Arkansas, on September 27, 1960. I am the son of Buddy Joe O'Keefe and Velma Marie Betts-O'Keefe-Harris. I was a 1979 graduate of Camden High School and the 1978-1979 Editor of The Panther's Echo, the student newspaper. I was Yearbook Advisor for Southern Arkansas University Technical School in 1982, and I graduated in 1985 from the University of Arkansas with a B.A. in Journalism. From 1986-1989, I worked for Tracy-Locke Advertising and Public Relations in Dallas, TX. From 1989 through retirement, I worked at American Airlines, Fort Worth, TX as an International Flight Attendant and in 2019 I became a DFW Base Representative and Presidential Assistant for the Association of Professional Flight Attendants at the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.
In my youth, I enjoyed horseback riding every week with my dad. We had many horses and other livestock in the 1960s and 1970s. At one time we had thirteen horses in our care. We rode in both the Circle C and East Camden Riding Clubs. We rode in horse shows, trail rides and parades with these organizations. In the sixth grade, I became a member of the Camden Bands. I enjoyed being a part of this organization all the way through high school. I began on trumpet, moved on to trombone and ended on the saxophone. I played all versions of the saxophone from baritone to soprano and was first chair for Camden as well as first chair all region through my senior year. I wouldn't trade my knowledge or love of music for anything.
My years at the University of Arkansas were some of my favorite in all of life. I made sever of my life long friends in elementary school and added more in college.
