Served on a nuclear powered fast attack submarine as reactor operator and Electronics Technician. Worked as a nuclear engineer for one year at Westinghouse, Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, West Mifflin, PA. Worked for the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission for 34 years. One of a 19 member US Nuclear Safety Delegation to visit the Soviet Union in 1988, two years after the disaster at Chernobyl. One of the first non-Soviets to be allowed inside the sarcophagus built over the damaged #4 reactor at Chernobyl. Served 2 1/2 years as Senior Technical Assistant for Reactors to the Chairman, USNRC. Retired in 2008 as Deputy Regional Administrator, USNRC Region IV in Arlington, TX.
