Bio

Dave hails from Tippah County, Mississippi and the small town of Falkner - so named after William Clark Falkner, the great grandfather of Pulitzer Prize winning author, William Faulkner. He enlisted in the Army in 1972 and advanced from private to sergeant, and then from lieutenant to full colonel. His father, Charles Leroy Childers, was drafted in the fall of 1942 and immediately joined the newly activated 10th Armored Division at Fort Benning. He was with the unit until it was deactivated three years later in October 1945. His father was a Corporal in Company C, 55th Armored Engineer Battalion of the 10th Armored Division and was part of Combat Command B, the first defenders of Bastogne. His father died in May 1985, and Dave only learned the extent of his service in 1999, 14 years after his father died. He is currently working on establishing a 'virtual cemetery" for all veterans of the 10th Armored Division.
