Bio

I was infected with the genealogy bug by my late aunt who began a life long genealogy quest in the 1930s. She started by transcribing the inscriptions in the Cochrane Bible, with its earliest in 1774 for the wedding of David Cochran and Lucy Winston in Colonial Virginia. My aunt, Miriam Margaret (Cochrane) Hunter (1903-1989), published 2 genealogy books, "The Cochrane Family" in 1943, and "The Four John Symes of Virginia" in 1986.

Since my retirement I have had the time to organize her files and expand on her work, going back 8 generations to Glasgow, Scotland in the 1600s.

When I began to research my wife's ancestors, we had knowledge of only her parents and grandparents. So far I have identified 170 of her ancestors, some going back 12 generations to Scotland, England and Germany in the 1600s.

I am happy to share any and all information I have in the same spirit that many others have helped me.

My Genealogy Families:
Cochran/Cochrane, Russell, Meriwether, Syme, Winston, Geddes, Overton, Bobby, Dabney, St. John, Eberhardt, Stewart, Jackson, McCrackin, Hamilton, etc.

My Wife's Genealogy Families:
Landolt, Claxton, Rae, Eyre, Doughty, Dougherty, Herrman, Baghurst, Hendrickson, Moore, Creekmoore, Hudson, Gourlay, Collins, Batchelor, Masfield, Baker, etc.

Geographical Concentrations:
US - VA, NC, KY, TN, KS, MO
UK - Scotland, England
