Bio

I was born in Charleston, SC and raised in Tabor City, NC by my maternal grandmother, Irene Strickland Roberts.

I graduated from Tabor City High School in Tabor City, NC in 1975, and enlisted in the United States Army serving in the 82nd Airborne Division as a Cavalry Scout, then as an Air Traffic Controller (Desert Storm Veteran) and finally as a First Sergeant of an Aviation Company (3/6th Cavalry) before retiring with 20 years service in 1995. I earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 1992 while serving in the military which helped me become a teacher with the assistance of the Troops to Teacher program after retirement.

I began my second career as an Elementary Educator in 1995 with the Killeen Independent School District in Killeen, Texas. I completed my Master of Arts in Education, Administration and Supervision degree from the University of Phoenix, which led to my promotion to an administration position as the Curriculum Instructional Specialist. I retired on 18 May 2021 after 26 years.

On 16 November 2013 I enlisted in the Texas State Guard and was assigned as the Senior Enlisted Advisor for 1st Battalion, 2nd Civil Affairs Regiment stationed out of San Marcos, Texas. I was promoted to Command Sergeant Major (E-9) on 13 March 2014. I retired as the Texas State Guard Command Sergeant Major on 1 Aug 2022.

I have been researching various branches of my family since 1979, and have always been knee deep into technology starting with the Commodore 64. I use a MacBook Pro, iPad, and of course my iPhone. I use Reunion and Family Tree Maker for Mac Genealogy programs.
