Bio

My name is Donald Eugene Golden 2nd. I live in decatur il. Im 31 an was born Febuary 24th 1980.I went to Stephen Decatur High School. My roots start in Ireland with a man named Richard Golden who lived in a town called Omagh in county Tyrone, Northern Ireland. Not much is known about Richard only that he lived in Ireland in the 1700s. I'm not sure if it was him or his sons' that decided to set sail for the new world, America. What an exciting time that must of been! My family ended up in Kentucky, Texas, and Illinois. Today my family has ventured and planted roots all across this country. I have family in Golden springs Kentucky, named after family who settled there. I have a cousin Rollin Golden in california that does an amazing job of researching our family history and has wrote a history book for our family to enjoy. The Golden cemetery is very special to me. I wish I could make the trip to Flora, Illinois more often. I visit my great Grandparents Pearly and Minerva Golden, My Grandparents Dorothy and Robert Golden, sadly enough my Uncles Jerry & Russel Golden who both passed before I was born, My Uncle Lee (Charles Leroy) Golden, I had the honor of taking care of him in the spring of 2005. He passed from cancer. It was the hardest thing I have ever done, but I wouldn't trade those 6 weeks we spent together for anything in the world. I had to leave tennessee to return to work, my sister Laura (Golden) JuvinalI was there with him til the end. I miss him dearly. Somewhere between xenia & Flora there use to be The Golden school, which was torn down many yrs ago. At the cemetery The Golden church use to sit. It was burned to the ground in 2005 which deeply saddened us all. Like the school it was a historical landmark and should of been preserved or gave back to the Golden's. Instead it was decided that more room was needed for cemetery plots so the church built by my family was destroyed. My family along with the Colclasures' and other families I'm sure helped settle parts of the clay county area in the 1800s and little by little the Golden and Colclasure name is slowly disappearing. What is now known as the Oakmound cemetery use to be The Colclasure cemetery where Edmund Golden was laid to rest (the earliest relative that my Father has a picture of). It is so sad to see those 2 names slowly disappear. I will close with saying thank you to the Lady in black for this site! I greatly appreciate all of the hard work she put into this site, taking all of the pictures and giving those like myself who is not able to get around so easy the ability to to view my families cemetery by clicking a few buttons. Also thank you for those of you who take the time to read the very short bio of my family, I hope all enjoy this site as much as I have!
