Bio

I'm enjoying "Find a Grave" very much, though am still pretty green both at this and in the genealogical searches.

On my father's side (Lindsay) I'm first generation American; Dad was born in Belfast in 1914 and came to this country in 1920 with his parents, Margaret Clark Lindsay and Henry Fulton Lindsay, and his older brother, John Henry Lindsay.

However, one first cousin 3 times removed, elder brother of my GGrandfather John Lindsay, William L. Lindsay left Northern Ireland and settled in Chester, So.Carolina. I have been searching records and "Find a Grave" for William's descendants or relatives through marriage, several of which have contacted me.

On my mother's paternal side (McNeil) I am as much as 13th generation American, as I have found 20 pair of GGGrandparents who arrived on these shores between 1620 and 1640. Surnames of these ancestors from the early 1600's include Carman, Fordham, Stewart, Conant, Harris, Bangs, Dunham, Belknap, Phelps, Lothrop, and others. The most recent early American discovery is that of Mary Chilton, Mayflower passenger, and her husband John Winslow, passenger on the Fortune, 1621. All of the above married into the McNeil line directly or through the Dunham line. I have found Dunham and Belknap graves posted on Find a Grave, as well as my great uncle Welcome McNeil's grave in Aitkin, MN. Ironically, Uncle Welcome's grave is just across the "aisle" from my own future grave site.

On my mother's maternal side (Costello)I'm third generation American as Mom's grandparents, John Costello and Bridget Monaghan Costello, came to St. Paul MN from Co. Galway, Ireland, around 1881. They are buried in Calvary Cemetery, St. Paul.

When I learn how to, I will happily request permission to add photos from grave sites I visit to the Find a Grave collection.

Thanks to all who have made this an exciting and rewarding adventure.
